Smith Retires

West Florida Electric Cooperative recently bid a fond farewell to Antoinette "Toni" Smith upon her retirement after nearly 30 years’ work at the Co-op. She began her career at WFEC as a file clerk in 1975, later becoming a general office clerk, then data processing clerk and, finally, computer service representative.

Among the most significant changes she’s seen take place during her years at WFEC is the advent of computers in the everyday workplace. "We did everything manually when I came," she said.

Smith already is adjusting well to her "new hours." "It seemed strange at first," she said. "But I enjoy not having to be in such a hurry all the time. When my children come, I’m always here, and we talk on the phone more. I also get to spend a lot more time with my husband."

Still, she cherishes the time she spent at WFEC. "West Florida Electric was a good place to work," she said. "It helped me have a lot of things I wanted."
