When you least expect it, severe weather, a squirrel on a powerline or a vehicle collision with a utility pole can cause you to lose power. But you can always expect a prompt, local response from West Florida Electric, your Touchstone Energy cooperative.
Upon receiving your outage report, WFEC dispatches linemen from within its service area, so they can begin working to restore your electric service within minutes, not hours. In fact, chances are, WFEC’s linemen and dispatchers will recognize your name and location on the computer printout of your outage information because they’re your friends, neighbors, relatives or members of your community.
No matter when you call to report an outage -- any day of the week, any hour of the day or night -- a live dispatcher is on duty in WFEC’s service center. Even when WFEC’s automated outage response phone system answers your call during widespread outages, service center personnel are there to immediately retrieve your report from the system and send help your way.
Besides the role WFEC’s linemen and dispatchers play, you – yes, you! – have a part in the prompt restoration of your electric service, even before an outage has occurred. The information you provide for WFEC’s records pertaining to your electric account helps the dispatcher pinpoint your location when you report an outage. The correct telephone number is especially important, so make sure yours is up-to-date in WFEC’s records.
Your description of any unusual sights or sounds occurring at the outset of an outage can provide clues that aid in power restoration. Should you reach WFEC’s automated phone system when calling in your outage report, the system will provide instructions for recording a message detailing your observations.
Although WFEC takes measures, such as right-of-way maintenance, to reduce the likelihood of power outages and works to restore your electric service as quickly as possible when outages do occur, the Co-op can’t guarantee you’ll never experience an outage. However, WFEC does offer products that help alleviate the inconvenience power outages can create. First, WFEC can install a LINK meter that will automatically notify the Co-op should you lose power, even while you’re away. WFEC also offers various sizes of standby, portable and PTO-drive electric generators to power your necessary appliances and equipment while WFEC restores your electric service during an outage.
