Balloon Fest lights up the night

The Night Glow will delight spectators each evening at the Touchstone Energy® Balloon Festival.

Colorful hot air balloons will brighten the daytime skies over Washington County during the upcoming Touchstone Energy® Balloon Festival in Chipley May 2 – 4. But an equally spectacular visual experience at the festival will be the balloon Night Glow each evening. Since balloonists first began providing this dazzling after-dark display at the world’s largest balloon gathering a decade ago, other festivals have followed suit.

Using the burner that heats the large volume of air that inflates the nylon balloon envelope, the pilots will illuminate the colorful fabric of their balloons with a soft yellow flame, so it resembles a giant light bulb. The festival also will feature balloon free flights and tethered rides, skydiving exhibitions by the School of Human Flight, the big top antics of the Alain Zerbini Circus, arts and crafts, concessions, a Ferris Wheel, moon walks, a climbing wall, helicopter rides, live music and more.

Admission to the event will be free on Friday and will be $5 for adults, $3 for military personnel, $2 for children ages six – 12 and free for children age five and under on Saturday and Sunday. For tickets or information, call the Washington County Tourist Development Council at 535-9779 or 638-4316. Six area Touchstone Energy® cooperatives, including West Florida Electric, will co-sponsor the festival.
