West Florida Electric sponsors local Relay for Life
West Florida Electric Cooperative (WFEC) Board President John E. Worthington recently joined other local Touchstone Energy® cooperative representatives in presenting a $52,500 check to the American Cancer Society. For the second consecutive year, WFEC; CHELCO, of DeFuniak Springs; and Gulf Coast Electric, of Wewahitchka, are regional Premier sponsors of the ACS Relay for Life in northwest Florida.
WFEC will sponsor at least five Relays in its service area this yearTogether, WFEC, CHELCO and Gulf Coast Electric will sponsor 13 Relay For Life events in the region from April 12 to May 17. Jointly with other Touchstone Energy® cooperatives in the Panhandle and south and central Alabama, the three local co-ops will contribute a total of $265,000 to the ACS Florida and Mid-South Divisions to sponsor 58 Relay events. In conjunction with WFEC's Premier sponsorship, the Co-op's employees also have formed teams to participate in the Relays in WFEC's service area.
The American Cancer Society, one of the largest voluntary health agencies in the U.S., is dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, education, advocacy and service.
