West Florida Electric Cooperative’s board of trustees has appointed Joe E. Rone, a lifelong Holmes County resident, to fill the vacant District 8 board seat. Rone will complete the unexpired term of Jimmy Kirkland, who resigned from the post at the end of March because he planned to move outside the district.
A selection committee composed of the trustees from the neighboring districts interviewed the trustee candidates using a uniform set of questions, then offered recommendations to the full board. By ballot, the board chose Rone from among five applicants. “It was a tough decision because all the applicants were highly qualified,” said committee chair and District 7 trustee Randy Bush. “We feel like Joe will be an asset to the Co-op.”
“I’m very excited about being selected,” said Rone. “West Florida Electric is a great company and it has a goal of bettering the community. I’m looking forward to working with the other board members.”
Rone has worked as a federal prison accountant for over twelve years and has previously owned and operated a small retail business in the community. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in accounting from Florida State University and is a 1978 graduate of Holmes County High School. He and his wife, Lee, have two daughters, Christy, 17, and Emily, 13.
