Health Hints

Step Up Florida!
by Deborah Maqueira, Health Educator, Washington County Health Department

Much of the population of the United States is overweight or obese. To focus the attention on the problem in our state, the Florida Department of Health is coordinating the third annual “Step Up, Florida”. For 2006, it will be a point-to-point relay and will take place in all 67 counties in Florida. This event is a non-competitive physical activity event designed to promote regular exercise within the communities across the state. The goals of “Step Up, Florida” are to motivate people of all ages to increase physical activity and engage in healthier and more physically active lifestyles as well as showcase various physical opportunities available to citizens and visitors throughout Florida. Planning is now under way in your community. If you would like to participate, or want more information contact your local Step Up, Florida Coordinator. 7951201
