Current Light Flashes

Upping the voltage

A contractor installs one of the specially-designed meters that will provide WFEC with data about household energy use..

Crews from all three districts — Bonifay, Graceville and Sneads — in West Florida Electric Cooperative’s service area recently worked together on a conversion to improve the Co-op’s electric distribution system. They doubled the voltage on the line two miles north of Dogwood Lakes over to Poplar Springs to improve service reliability and efficiency in the area. WFEC’s service center personnel used their PORCHE, or Power Outage Response Call Handling Equipment, to deliver a recorded message in advance to the approximately 500 customers who would be affected.
Mike Birge uses a "hot stick" to ground the line.
Rick Hodge prepares to ground the line at another point.
Chad Mitchell converts the transformers from 7,200 to 14,400 volts.
Terrell Culbreth upgrades the transformers.
