WFEC helps students to Get Charged!

Shown, from left, are WFEC Supervisor of Communications John Thornton, Bethel Baptist Church Pastor Kent Lampp, WFEC Member Services Representative Carrie Bennett, Holmes County Baptist Association Director of Missions Paul Fries and WFEC Manager of Loss Control and Operational Services Donnie Worley.

West Florida Electric and other northwest Florida Touchstone Energy Cooperatives are partnering with the Discovery Channel to offer a new science education program, at no cost to area schools, for middle and junior high school students. Called Get Charged!, the supplement to existing curricula is designed to provide fifth- through ninth-graders a real-world understanding of the nature and uses of electricity and the role electric co-ops play in delivering that power.

Each Get Charged! educational kit includes a video, CD-ROM, teacher’s resource guide, lesson plan, student activity book and classroom poster that comply with National Science Education Standards. WFEC is contributing the materials as part of its ongoing commitment to the communities it serves – a core value of all Touchstone Energy cooperatives.

Discovery Channel School has developed a growing line of over 600 educational video, print and multi-media resources for classroom use, drawing much of their content from Discovery Channel television programming. Get Charged is available only through Touchstone Energy cooperatives. For additional information, log on to or www.discoveryschool.com.
