WFEC becomes regional Relay for Life sponsorCommitment to community - along with integrity, accountability and innovation - is one of the core values of all Touchstone Energy electric cooperatives, including West Florida Electric Cooperative. That commitment is at the heart of WFEC's support of Relay for Life events to raise money for the American Cancer Society units in its service area. In the past, WFEC has participated in Relay for Life by organizing an employee team or serving as a corporate sponsor, but now the Co-op is taking its involvement a step further. In conjunction with 20 other electric distribution co-ops served by Alabama Electric Cooperative, WFEC has entered a Relay for Life sponsorship agreement with the American Cancer Society's northwest Florida and central and south Alabama divisions. In counties where two co-ops' service areas adjoin, as WFEC's and Gulf Coast Electric Cooperative's do in Calhoun and Washington Counties, the two systems will co-sponsor the Relays in those counties. WFEC also will continue to field teams at the events. More than a walkathon, the Relay for Life is a unique, inspirational, fun-filled, all-night community party to increase cancer awareness, honor cancer patients and survivors and remember those who lost their battle. In the process, Relay participants raise money for cancer patient and family support and services, educational programs and research. Most Relays last 24 hours as a reminder that cancer patients must cope with this disease every hour of every day. Look for additional Relay for Life information in upcoming issues of Current Light Flashes.
