Touchstone Energy co-ops talk turkey

Turkey enthusiasts will flock to Ozark, Ala., as West Florida Electric and other Touchstone Energy® Cooperatives sponsor the Tri-State Open and 33rd Annual Alabama State Turkey Calling Contest Saturday, March 13, at the Ozark Civic Center. WFEC will join Pea River Electric Cooperative, of Ozark, Ala.; Wiregrass Electric Cooperative, of Hartford, Ala.; and South Alabama Electric Cooperative, of Troy, Ala., as top sponsors of this year’s event. The competition is sanctioned by the Alabama State Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation, or NWTF, and hosted by the Southeast Alabama Chapter.

Any current NWTF member is eligible to compete; however, contestants must present a membership card at registration. Memberships will be available for anyone who is not a current member but wishes to compete. The Alabama State Championship Division is limited to Alabama residents only. Residents from Alabama, Georgia and Florida are encouraged to register for the Tri-State Open.

This year's contest will feature six divisions: Tri-State Open, Two-Man, Friction, Owling, Junior and Alabama State Championship. Admission is $5 per adult and free for children age 12 and under accompanied by an adult. Registration will begin at 7:30 a. m., and the contest will start at 9:30 a. m. The event also will feature door prizes, a silent auction and vendors. “This is a great way for West Florida Electric to interact with our community and promote Touchstone Energy® in a fun environment,” said Gary Clark, WFEC Vice President of Member Services.
