WFEC makes way for road improvements

They might not move mountains, but West Florida Electric Cooperative's linemen have tackled some major relocation projects when the need has arisen. For instance, the Holmes County Road Department's plans to resurface and widen roads at Boswell Crossroads, near WFEC's Bonifay substation, recently required the Co-op to move its surrounding powerlines.

WFEC's Bonifay district linemen, joined by crews from the Co-op's Graceville and Sneads districts, reconstructed four spans, or about 1,000 feet, of three-phase feeder from the substation. Using a digger truck, they also relocated the accompanying poles.

"Although the project was complicated, everyone worked hard to make sure it went quickly and smoothly, from the linemen to the office staff who answered calls from consumers who were affected," said WFEC Bonifay District Supervisor of Operations and Construction Doyle Short. The crews completed the work and re-energized the lines in about 90 minutes.

WFEC has performed similar relocations to accomodate state, as well as county, road improvement projects. The Co-op notifies consumers of these types of planned power outages beforehand through local broadcast media and, when possible, in area newspapers.
